Days of Plenary Indulgence
Plenary Indulgences are granted to the Faithful who visit the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Youngstown, through the spiritual bond with St. Mary Major Basilica, Rome, on the following days:
January 1 - Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God
March 25 - Solemnity of the Annunciation
May 13 - the day the church was elevated to a minor Basilica
June 29 - the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul, Apostles
July 16 - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Feast Day
August 5 - the Dedication of the Basilica of St. Mary Major
August 15 - the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
October 7 - the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary
December 8 - Feast of the Immaculate Conception and day of the dedication of the Basilica
Once a year, on the day chosen by the Faithful
Conditions to be fulfilled:
- Have a complete detachment from sin, even venial
- Sacramental Confession and Holy Communion, within several days of visit
- Pray for the intentions of Pope Leo XIV, an Our Father and Hail Mary are suggested.
Affiliation with the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major
The Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major has made a special bond of spiritual communion with more than 300 Marian shrines throughout the world, through an official “affiliation” that allows them to share in the Basilica’s spirituality, devotion to the Mother of God, prayers of intercession and in particular, the precious grace of Indulgences granted by the Apostolic Penitentiary.
